**Mathieu Denis** is a [Canadian](/source/Canadians) screenwriter and film director from [Quebec](/source/Quebec).[1] He is best known for his films *[Corbo](/source/Corbo)*, which was a [Canadian Screen Award](/source/Canadian_Screen_Award) and [Quebec Cinema Award](/source/Prix_Iris) nominee for Best Picture in 2016, and *[Those Who Make Revolution Halfway Only Dig Their Own Graves](/source/Those_Who_Make_Revolution_Halfway_Only_Dig_Their_Own_Graves) (Ceux qui font les révolutions à moitié n'ont fait que se creuser un tombeau)*, which won the award for [Best Canadian Film](/source/Toronto_International_Film_Festival_Award_for_Best_Canadian_Film) at the [2016 Toronto International Film Festival](/source/2016_Toronto_International_Film_Festival).[2]

Denis made several short films before his feature film debut, *[Laurentia](/source/Laurentia_(film)) (Laurentie)*, in 2011.[3] The most noted of his short films was *[Code 13](/source/Code_13_(film))*, which was named to TIFF's annual year-end [Canada's Top Ten](/source/Canada's_Top_Ten) list in 2007.[4]

Most but not all of his films have been made in collaboration with [Simon Lavoie](/source/Simon_Lavoie).[3]
