**Matan** (Hebrew: מתן) is a [community settlement](/source/Community_settlement_(Israel)) in central [Israel](/source/Israel). Located near [Yarhiv](/source/Yarhiv) and [Nirit](/source/Nirit), it falls under the jurisdiction of [Drom HaSharon Regional Council](/source/Drom_HaSharon_Regional_Council). In it had a population of .

## History

The community was founded in 1993, and took its name from[1] the [Bible](/source/Bible), specifically [Proverbs](/source/Book_of_Proverbs) 18:16:

A man's **gift** maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.[2]

Its establishment was part of Minister of Housing and Construction [Ariel Sharon](/source/Ariel_Sharon)'s 'seven stars' plan to increase Jewish communities along the [Green Line](/source/Green_Line_(Israel)).[3]
