In 1210, during [Ayyubid](/source/Ayyubid_dynasty) rule, the al-Adil Minaret was constructed. The brick structure was built in the simple, [Persian architectural style](/source/Persian_architecture). It was further developed during the [Mamluk](/source/Mamluk_Sultanate) period. It was restored during [Hafez al-Assad](/source/Hafez_al-Assad)'s rule (1970–2000) and is one last historic architectural remains in the town.<ref>[https://web.archive.org/web/20071225031906/http://www.archnet.org/library/sites/one-site.jsp?site_id=7508 Al-'Adil Minaret].
