**Masahiro Takashima** (髙嶋 政宏, *Takashima Masahiro*; born October 29, 1965, [Tokyo](/source/Tokyo)) is a Japanese actor and singer.

## Early life

Takashima comes from a family of actors, including his father [Tadao Takashima](/source/Tadao_Takashima), his mother Hanayo Sumi, and his younger brother [Masanobu Takashima](/source/Masanobu_Takashima).

## Career

### Acting

Takashima debuted in the 1987 film *[Totto Channel](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Totto_Channel&action=edit&redlink=1)*, directed by [Kazuki Ōmori](/source/Kazuki_%C5%8Cmori). His part as Tsuda in *Busu* that same year earned him the [Japan Academy Prize](/source/Japan_Academy_Prize_(film)) for Newcomer of the Year, as well as the [Blue Ribbon Award](/source/Blue_Ribbon_Awards), Hochi Film Award, [Kinema Junpo](/source/Kinema_Junpo) Award, and the [Mainichi Film Award](/source/Mainichi_Film_Award) for Best New Actor in 1988.[1] Since that time he has appeared in feature films, including *[Gunhed](/source/Gunhed_(film))*, *[Legend of Zipang](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Legend_of_Zipang&action=edit&redlink=1)* (1990), *[Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II](/source/Godzilla_vs._Mechagodzilla_II)*, *[Godzilla vs. Destoroyah](/source/Godzilla_vs._Destoroyah)*, and *[Kakushi Toride no San-Akunin: The Last Princess](/source/Kakushi_Toride_no_San-Akunin%3A_The_Last_Princess)*, and *The Climbers High*. ### Singing

As a singer, Takashima released singles and albums from 1992 to 1994. He covered the King Crimson song *[Starless](/source/Starless)*[4] on the B side of his 1993 single *Kowarerukurai Dakishimetai* (こわれるくらい抱きしめたい). On Rock Fujiyama, he was nicknamed *Starless Takashima* (スターレス髙嶋) because he was a King Crimson enthusiast.

## Personal life

Takashima married stage actress Sylvia Grab in 2005.[5][6]

Takashima's has expressed a love for [rock music](/source/Rock_(music)), especially [progressive rock](/source/Progressive_rock). He is a fan of [Kiss](/source/Kiss_(band)), and admitted in an interview with the Japanese weekly magazine *Flash*, that the first concert he attended was a Kiss show at [Nippon Budokan](/source/Nippon_Budokan) in 1978.[7] Takashima appeared on the Japanese music show *[Rock Fujiyama](/source/Rock_Fujiyama)* in 2006 and 2007, speaking about his favorite English band [King Crimson](/source/King_Crimson), stating that he had attended live concerts of the following groups: King Crimson, [Michael Schenker Group](/source/Michael_Schenker_Group), [Yes](/source/Yes_(band)) and [AC/DC](/source/AC%2FDC). Takashima was asked to write the liner notes for King Crimson's compilation album *[The Condensed 21st Century Guide to King Crimson](/source/The_Condensed_21st_Century_Guide_to_King_Crimson)* after his first appearance on *Rock Fujiyama*.[8]

Takashima professes to enjoy the music of [Grand Funk Railroad](/source/Grand_Funk_Railroad), [Thin Lizzy](/source/Thin_Lizzy), and the [Sex Pistols](/source/Sex_Pistols). Takashima surprised Kiss enthusiast [Marty Friedman](/source/Marty_Friedman) of [Megadeth](/source/Megadeth) when he showed rare Kiss memorabilia on Rock Fujiyama.[9][10][11]
