==Early life==
Perry was born in [Burbank, California](/source/Burbank%2C_California), in 1943. Her passion for volleyball began when she enrolled in [Pierce Junior College](/source/Los_Angeles_Pierce_College) and grew after she formed the South California volleyball team, the Renegades.<ref>{{cite web |url=http://usavolleyball.org/about-usa-volleyball/usa-volleyball-awards-pages/all-time-great-volleyball-player-award/2009-all-time-great-player-mary-perry |title=Self Bio at the USA Volleyball Portal |accessdate=June 19, 2012}}</ref>

==Olympics==
In 1963, Perry was chosen for the US Women's Volleyball Team to compete at the [Pan American Games](/source/Pan_American_Games) in São Paulo, Brazil. The team won the gold medal. At the top of her sport throughout the 1960s, she went on to participate in two Olympiads in 1964 in Tokyo and the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City.

==Life after the Olympics==
After graduating from [Cal State Northridge](/source/Cal_State_Northridge) with a bachelor's degree in physical education in 1971, Perry taught and coached in Honolulu and at Cal State Hayward, where she earned her master's degrees in P.E. and Education.

Perry moved to [Ashland, Oregon](/source/Ashland%2C_Oregon) in 1986 and assisted coaching women's volleyball at Southern Oregon State College (now [Southern Oregon University](/source/Southern_Oregon_University)). She received her third master's degree in psychology from S.O.S.C. and coached senior citizens in fitness through [Elderhostel](/source/Elderhostel). She produced the acclaimed fitness video, "Early Morning Stretch" and worked with geriatric patients through Jackson County Mental Health until her retirement in 2002.

Perry died at home of the rare disease, [multiple system atrophy](/source/multiple_system_atrophy).
