**Marvin Leonard Kalb** (born June 9, 1930) is an American [journalist](/source/Journalist). He was the founding director of the [Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics and Public Policy](/source/Shorenstein_Center_on_Media%2C_Politics_and_Public_Policy) and Edward R. Murrow Professor of Press and Public Policy from 1987 to 1999. The Shorenstein Center and the Kennedy School are part of [Harvard University](/source/Harvard_University). Kalb is currently a James Clark Welling Fellow at [George Washington University](/source/The_George_Washington_University) and a member of the [Atlantic Community](/source/Atlantic_Community) Advisory Board.

## Career

Kalb spent 30 years as an award-winning reporter[*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*] for [CBS News](/source/CBS_News) and [NBC News](/source/NBC_News). Kalb was the last newsman recruited by [Edward R. Murrow](/source/Edward_R._Murrow) to join CBS News, becoming part of the later generation of the "[Murrow Boys](/source/Murrow_Boys)." His work at CBS landed him on [Richard Nixon](/source/Richard_Nixon)'s ["enemies list"](/source/Master_list_of_Nixon's_political_opponents). At NBC, he served as chief diplomatic correspondent and host of *[Meet the Press](/source/Meet_the_Press)*. During many years of Kalb's tenures at CBS and NBC, his brother [Bernard](/source/Bernard_Kalb) worked alongside him.

Kalb has authored or coauthored many nonfiction books and two best-selling[*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*] novels (*In the National Interest* and *The Last Ambassador*).
