**Martin Wimmer** (born 11 October 1957 in [Munich](/source/Munich)) is a former [Grand Prix](/source/Grand_Prix_motorcycle_racing) [motorcycle](/source/Motorcycle) [road racer](/source/Road_racing) from [Germany](/source/Germany). He had his best year in [1985](/source/1985_Grand_Prix_motorcycle_racing_season), when he won the [German Grand Prix](/source/German_motorcycle_Grand_Prix), and had two second places, finishing the 250cc season in fourth place behind [Freddie Spencer](/source/Freddie_Spencer), [Anton Mang](/source/Anton_Mang) and [Carlos Lavado](/source/Carlos_Lavado).[1]

In 1987, [Yamaha](/source/Yamaha_Motor_Company) teamed Wimmer with [Kevin Magee](/source/Kevin_Magee_(motorcycle_racer)) to win the [Suzuka 8 Hours](/source/Suzuka_8_Hours) [endurance](/source/Endurance_racing_(motorsport)) race.[2] In 2009, he joined [Ralf Waldmann](/source/Ralf_Waldmann) in buying out the motorbike manufacturing company [MZ](/source/MZ_Motorrad-_und_Zweiradwerk), from the [Hong Leong Group](/source/Hong_Leong_Group).[3]

Wimmer formed Motorenwerke Zschopau GmbH and ran it with the Investor Peter Ertel until September 2012, when he had to file for insolvency proceedings. His bank, [Merkur Bank](/source/Merkur_Bank) KGaA, had withdrawn a loan offer short term despite the company having a fixed term account. Currently, there are several legal court proceedings. Wimmer published a book about the case in November 2014. The name of the book is: Der Fall MZ ... durch die Bank weg ...
