**Martin Shovlin** (born 1960/1) is an Irish former [Gaelic footballer](/source/Gaelic_football) who played for [Naomh Ultan](/source/CLG_Naomh_Ultan) and the [Donegal county team](/source/Donegal_county_football_team).

He played against [Armagh](/source/Armagh_GAA) and scored a point in the 1990 Ulster final, won by Donegal.[3] His performance led him to be awarded the Ulster GAA Writers' Player of the Year.[3]

He was part of Donegal's successful [1992 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship](/source/1992_All-Ireland_Senior_Football_Championship) team. He started the semi-final against [Mayo](/source/Mayo_GAA) at [Croke Park](/source/Croke_Park).[4] However, he did not play in the final; he had sustained a stiff neck injury which was still affecting him on the morning of the final.[2] [John Joe Doherty](/source/John_Joe_Doherty) took his place in the team.[5] Donegal captain [Anthony Molloy](/source/Anthony_Molloy_(Gaelic_footballer)) singled Shovlin out for a special mention in his victory speech.[6]

Earlier that year, *[Hogan Stand](/source/Hogan_Stand)* indicated that: "Even objective observers of the game in Donegal recognised that the Shovlin, [Gavigan](/source/Martin_Gavigan) and [Reid](/source/Donal_Reid) combination probably represented the best lie of defence in the country. The Dublin trio of [Curran](/source/Paul_Curran_(Gaelic_footballer)), [Carr](/source/Tommy_Carr_(Gaelic_footballer)) and [Heery](/source/Eamon_Heery) were the only other combination which vied for that tag, it was suggested".[7]

Shovlin was still playing for Naomh Ultan as recently as 2021.[2][1]
