# Martin Kree

**Martin Kree** (born 27 January 1965) is a German former [footballer](/source/Association_football),[1] who played mostly as a [central defender](/source/Defender_(association_football)#Centre_back).

During a 15-year professional career, Kree played 401 [Bundesliga](/source/Bundesliga) games for [VfL Bochum](/source/VfL_Bochum), [Bayer 04 Leverkusen](/source/Bayer_04_Leverkusen) and [Borussia Dortmund](/source/Borussia_Dortmund).[2]

## Career

Born in [Wickede](/source/Wickede), [North Rhine-Westphalia](/source/North_Rhine-Westphalia), Kree made his [first division](/source/Bundesliga) debuts with [VfL Bochum](/source/VfL_Bochum) in [1983–84](/source/1983%E2%80%9384_Bundesliga) – seven matches, one goal – netting an impressive 12 goals in [his sixth season](/source/1988%E2%80%9389_Bundesliga) (only three [penalty kicks](/source/Penalty_kick_(association_football))), while only missing six matches in his last four seasons combined.

After a further five seasons with [Bayer 04 Leverkusen](/source/Bayer_04_Leverkusen), playing in all 38 league matches with nine goals in [the first campaign with teams from the re-unified Germany](/source/1991%E2%80%9392_Bundesliga), Kree moved to [Borussia Dortmund](/source/Borussia_Dortmund), where he won back-to-back league championships, the [1997 Champions League](/source/1996%E2%80%9397_UEFA_Champions_League) and the [Intercontinental Cup](/source/FIFA_Intercontinental_Cup), also in that year. During the club's [Champions League](/source/UEFA_Champions_League) victorious campaign, he played in eight matches (six complete, including [the final](/source/1997_UEFA_Champions_League_Final)).

Kree retired from football in 1998, aged 33.
