Kovachev played for [Velbazhd Kyustendil](/source/Velbazhd_Kyustendil), [Spartak Varna](/source/PFC_Spartak_1918), [Litex Lovech](/source/Litex_Lovech) and [Dunav Rousse](/source/Dunav_Rousse) before moving to [Chernomorets](/source/PFC_Chernomorets_Burgas) in June 2008 for a free transfer. With the club Kovachev played in a matches of [Intertoto Cup 2008](/source/Intertoto_Cup_2008) against Slovenian [ND Gorica](/source/ND_Gorica) and Swiss [Grasshopper Club Zürich](/source/Grasshopper_Club_Z%C3%BCrich). Six months later he is loaned to [Naftex Burgas](/source/Naftex_Burgas). On 5 July 2009 Kovachev signed three years contract with [OFC Sliven 2000](/source/OFC_Sliven_2000).{{fact|date=April 2026}}
