'''Martin Horsell''' (born 10 December 1986) is an English professional [footballer](/source/association_football) who plays as a [goalkeeper](/source/goalkeeper_(association_football)) for [Bath City](/source/Bath_City_F.C.), as well as serving as goalkeeping coach.

==Career==
Horsell was spotted by a scout from [Plymouth Argyle](/source/Plymouth_Argyle_F.C.) while playing for his school, the King Edward VI Community College in his hometown [Totnes](/source/Totnes). He played for the Argyle Youth sides and while attending Plymouth College was selected for the British Colleges side.

He left Plymouth in 2004 when he moved to the Bristol Academy of Sport at Filton College. Soon after starting at the College he was selected to play for the [Bristol Rovers](/source/Bristol_Rovers_F.C.) under-18 side and in October 2004 was signed by Rovers manager [Ian Atkins](/source/Ian_Atkins) on non-contract terms as cover for [Kevin Miller](/source/Kevin_Miller_(footballer)).<ref>[https://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/b/bristol_rovers/3745628.stm Rovers cancel Anderson's contract]</ref> He signed a professional contract with Rovers for the 2005–06 season, but failed to break into the first team.

In July 2006, after his release by Rovers,<ref>[https://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/b/bristol_rovers/4751147.stm Trollope releases Rovers quartet]</ref> he signed for [Torquay United](/source/Torquay_United_F.C.), by now managed by [Ian Atkins](/source/Ian_Atkins) as back-up for [Nathan Abbey](/source/Nathan_Abbey).<ref>[https://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/t/torquay_united/5220334.stm Abbey agrees terms with Torquay]</ref>

With Abbey set to leave over a contract dispute, Horsell was given his league debut when he replaced Abbey as a substitute with seven minutes remaining of the home game with [Milton Keynes Dons](/source/Milton_Keynes_Dons_F.C.), despite Torquay trailing 0–2 at the time. Abbey subsequently signed a contract with [Brentford](/source/Brentford_F.C.)

He made his full debut in the next game, a 1–0 defeat at home to fellow strugglers [Macclesfield Town](/source/Macclesfield_Town_F.C.) in which he was given the Man of the Match Award. However, after the signing of [Kevin Miller](/source/Kevin_Miller_(footballer)) on loan from [Southampton](/source/Southampton_F.C.), Horsell returned to being second choice goalkeeper. With Torquay relegated to the [Conference National](/source/Conference_National) at the end of the season, Horsell was offered a new contract. However, with the signing of both [Simon Rayner](/source/Simon_Rayner) and Martin Rice, Horsell chose to seek a move back to league football.

He began the 2007–08 season with [Yate Town](/source/Yate_Town_F.C.), signing an initial one-month contract with Conference National side [Salisbury City](/source/Salisbury_City_F.C.) in late September 2007 after an injury to regular Salisbury keeper Jamie Bittner.<ref>[https://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/s/salisbury/7021741.stm Salisbury sign ex-Torquay keeper]</ref> On 29 January 2008 he signed for [Conference South](/source/Conference_South) side [Dorchester Town](/source/Dorchester_Town_F.C.).<ref>[http://www.dorchestertownfc.co.uk/news/2008/january/29-1.shtml Magpies swoop for Keeper Horsell] {{webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20081203212203/http://www.dorchestertownfc.co.uk/news/2008/january/29-1.shtml |date=3 December 2008 }}</ref>

He was unattached when he joined [Tiverton Town](/source/Tiverton_Town_F.C.) in March 2008.<ref>{{cite news|url=http://www.nonleaguedaily.com/news/index.php?newsmode=FULL&nid=48644|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20120821175751/http://www.nonleaguedaily.com/news/index.php?newsmode=FULL&nid=48644|url-status=usurped|archive-date=21 August 2012|title=Johnston injury hands Horsell his chance|publisher=NonLeagueDaily|date=2008-03-05|accessdate=2008-12-29}}</ref> He then joined Belgian side [R.R.F.C. Montegnée](/source/R.R.F.C._Montegn%C3%A9e).

At the start of the 2010–11 season he was playing for [Weymouth](/source/Weymouth_F.C.).

Horsell joined [Hereford](/source/Hereford_F.C.) midway through the 2015–16 season, helping them to promotion. After three years with the club, Horsell left Hereford by mutual consent on 11 January 2019.<ref>{{cite news |url=https://www.herefordtimes.com/sport/17352968.martin-horsell-leaves-after-having-frustrating-time-at-hereford-fc/ |title=Martin Horsell leaves after having 'frustrating time' at Hereford FC |first=Ben |last=Goddard |newspaper=Hereford Times |date=11 January 2019 |accessdate=11 January 2019}}</ref> He then joined [Swindon Supermarine](/source/Swindon_Supermarine_F.C.). He was sent off on his debut, against [Frome Town](/source/Frome_Town_F.C.), for handling the ball outside of his area.<ref>{{Cite web |title=Henry's Supermarine loan extended further following Horsell red card |first=Shaun |last=Reynolds |work=Swindon Advertiser |date=29 January 2019 |access-date=27 February 2019 |url= https://www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/sport/17392149.swindon-town-goalkeeper-will-henry-returns-to-swindon-supermarine-following-martin-horsells-red-card/}}</ref>

In June 2022, Horsell returned to Yate Town.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://www.pitchero.com/clubs/yatetownfootballclub/news/yate-town-make-first-summer-signing-2707296.html|title=YATE TOWN MAKE FIRST SUMMER SIGNING|publisher=[Yate Town F.C.](/source/Yate_Town_F.C.)|date=9 June 2022|accessdate=15 June 2022}}</ref>
