**Martin David William Childs** [MBE](/source/Member_of_the_Most_Excellent_Order_of_the_British_Empire) ([born 1 July 1954](https://web.archive.org/web/20070927213558/http://cinema.castlerock.it/personaggi_dvd.php/id=196/scheda=martin-childs)), is a British [production designer](/source/Production_designer). He won the 1998 [Academy Award](/source/Academy_Awards) for [Best Art Direction-Set Decoration](/source/Academy_Award_for_Best_Production_Design) (jointly with [Jill Quertier](/source/Jill_Quertier)) for *[Shakespeare in Love](/source/Shakespeare_in_Love)*,[1] and was nominated at the [74th Academy Awards](/source/74th_Academy_Awards) for his work on the film *[Quills](/source/Quills_(film))*.[2] He has also been nominated three times for the Art Directors Guild Award for Excellence in Production Design, and three times for a [BAFTA](/source/BAFTA) Award for Best Production Design.

In the [New Year Honours 2002](/source/2002_New_Year_Honours#United_Kingdom), Childs was appointed as a [Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire](/source/Member_of_the_Most_Excellent_Order_of_the_British_Empire)[3] for his *services to the film industry* as a production designer.
