**Markel Irizar Aranburu** (born 5 February 1980) is a Spanish former professional [road racing cyclist](/source/Road_racing_cyclist), who rode professionally between 2004 and 2019 for the [Euskaltel–Euskadi](/source/Euskaltel%E2%80%93Euskadi_(1994%E2%80%932013)), [Team RadioShack](/source/Team_RadioShack) and [Trek–Segafredo](/source/Lidl%E2%80%93Trek_(men's_team)) teams.[3] During his professional career, Irizar took two victories – a stage win at the 2010 [Tour du Poitou-Charentes](/source/Tour_Poitou-Charentes_en_Nouvelle-Aquitaine) and the general classification at the [2011 Vuelta a Andalucía](/source/2011_Vuelta_a_Andaluc%C3%ADa).

Following his retirement from riding in August 2019,[3] Irizar has worked as a [directeur sportif](/source/Directeur_sportif) for both the [men's](/source/Lidl%E2%80%93Trek_(men's_team)) and [women's](/source/Lidl%E2%80%93Trek_(women's_team)) Lidl–Trek WorldTeams,[4] and from 2024, works as the general manager for the Lidl–Trek Development Team.[5]

Born in [Oñati](/source/O%C3%B1ati), [Basque Country](/source/Basque_Country_(autonomous_community)), Irizar resided in [Arrasate](/source/Mondrag%C3%B3n), [Basque Country](/source/Basque_Country_(autonomous_community)), Spain, as of 2014.[6] Irizar was diagnosed and treated for [testicular cancer](/source/Testicular_cancer) in 2002.[6][7][8]
