# Mark Way

**Wilfrid Lewis Mark Way** (called **Mark**; 12 May 1905 – 30 July 1982) was a British [Anglican](/source/Anglican) bishop. He was the third [Bishop of Masasi](/source/Anglican_Diocese_of_Masasi), serving during the third quarter of the 20th century.

Born on 12 May 1905[1] and educated at [Rossall School](/source/Rossall_School) and [Trinity College, Cambridge](/source/Trinity_College,_Cambridge), he was ordained in 1929.[2]

He was made a deacon in [Advent](/source/Advent) 1928 (on 23 December)[3] and ordained a priest the next Advent (22 December 1929) — both times by [Albert David](/source/Albert_David_(bishop)), [Bishop of Liverpool](/source/Bishop_of_Liverpool), at [Liverpool Cathedral](/source/Liverpool_Cathedral).[4] After [curacies](/source/Curate) at St Faith, [Great Crosby](/source/Great_Crosby)[5] and St Bartholomew, [Brighton](/source/Brighton)[6] he became an [UMCA](/source/Universities'_Mission_to_Central_Africa) [Missionary](/source/Missionary) in Tanzania. He was [Curate](/source/Curate) of [Korogwe](/source/Korogwe) then [Priest in charge](/source/Priest_in_charge) of several [Zanzibar](/source/Zanzibar) [Missions](/source/Mission_(Christian))[7] and finally (before his elevation to the [episcopate](/source/Episcopate)) [Warden](/source/Warden_(college)) of Kalole [Theological College](/source/Theological_College). He was consecrated a bishop on [St Luke](/source/St_Luke)'s Day 1952 (18 October) at [Westminster Abbey](/source/Westminster_Abbey).[8] On his return to England he was [Rector](/source/Rector_(ecclesiastical)) of [Averham](/source/Averham) (1960–1971),[9] and during that time also an [Assistant Bishop of Southwell](/source/Assistant_Bishop_of_Southwell).[10] He died on 30 July 1982.[11]
