# Mark Tilton

**Mark Tilton** (born 1962 in [Blackpool](/source/Blackpool), [Lancashire](/source/Lancashire), England) is an [English](/source/England) [screenwriter](/source/Screenwriter), filmmaker, actor and musician.

Tilton is a frequent collaborator with director George Milton. Their screenplay *[The Truth](/source/The_Truth_(2006_film))*,[1] a darkly comic murder-mystery satirising [new age](/source/New_age) therapy, was directed by Milton and features [Elizabeth McGovern](/source/Elizabeth_McGovern), [Elaine Cassidy](/source/Elaine_Cassidy) and [Karl Theobald](/source/Karl_Theobald) amongst an ensemble cast.

With Milton, Tilton co-wrote the screenplay for the multi-award-winning film A Bullet Wasted,[2] in which a young partisan is forced to choose between executing her Commander or her brother. The film was made as part of the Directors UK / ARRI Challenge Trinity scheme [3] and was shot in a single uninterrupted take using the Arri Trinity. It was directed by George Milton and shot by Oscar and BAFTA nominated [Robbie Ryan (cinematographer)](/source/Robbie_Ryan_(cinematographer)). The film won Best Short Film and Best Cinematography at London Independent Film Awards 2019 [4] and Best Short Film at Edinburgh Independent Film Awards 2019.[5]

*Infidel*, a drama focusing on the subject of [Holocaust denial](/source/Holocaust_denial), was awarded Best UK Short Film at the [Raindance Film Festival](/source/Raindance_Film_Festival) 2009. The film is part of a triptych of shorts, *Sins of London*, written by Tilton and directed by Milton.

A graduate of the [UEA Creative Writing Course](/source/UEA_Creative_Writing_Course), Tilton wrote the [libretto](/source/Libretto) for *Hell for Leather*, a comic film [opera](/source/Opera) composed and directed by [Dominik Scherrer](/source/Dominik_Scherrer). The film won numerous international awards, including the Prix Action Light at [Locarno International Film Festival](/source/Locarno_International_Film_Festival), and featured in the notorious [Sensation exhibition](/source/Sensation_exhibition) at The [Brooklyn Museum](/source/Brooklyn_Museum) in 1999.

Tilton won the Best Actor Award at the [16th Grand Off Film Festival](http://grandoff.eu/index.php/en/174-16-grand-off-a-winner-is) in Warsaw, Poland in December 2022 for his lead role in Guillaume Doucet's film *Better Men*.

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Tilton was guitarist and singer with the [post-punk](/source/Post-punk) band [The Membranes](/source/The_Membranes). He later joined [Marc Riley](/source/Marc_Riley) as guitarist in [The Creepers](/source/The_Creepers). He returned to performing music in 2013, fronting his band Black Crack. He currently sings and plays guitar with experimental and improvisational rock band Nöise.
