# Mark Shumate

**Mark Anthony Shumate** (born March 30, 1960[2]) is an American former professional [football](/source/American_football) player who was a [nose tackle](/source/Nose_tackle) in the [National Football League](/source/National_Football_League) (NFL). He played at the [college football](/source/College_football) for the [Wisconsin Badgers](/source/Wisconsin_Badgers_football) and was selected by the [Kansas City Chiefs](/source/Kansas_City_Chiefs) in the tenth round of the [1983 NFL draft](/source/1983_NFL_draft) with the 257th overall pick. Shumate played in the NFL for the [New York Jets](/source/New_York_Jets) and the [Green Bay Packers](/source/Green_Bay_Packers), both in 1985.[3]
