# Mark Neeleman

**Mark Jacobus Louis Neeleman** (born 16 April 1959, in [Baghdad, Iraq](/source/Baghdad,_Iraq)) is a [sailor](/source/Sailing_(sport)) from the Netherlands.[1] Since the Netherlands did [boycott](/source/1980_Summer_Olympics_boycott)[2] the [Moscow](/source/Moscow) Olympic Games Neeleman represented his National Olympic Committee at the [1980 Summer Olympics](/source/Sailing_at_the_1980_Summer_Olympics) in [Tallinn](/source/Tallinn), [USSR](/source/USSR) under the Dutch [NOC](/source/NOC*NSF) flag.[3] Neeleman took 8th place in the [1980 Summer Olympics](/source/Sailing_at_the_1980_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Finn), which was boycotted by several countries.[4][5] In [1984 Summer Olympics](/source/Sailing_at_the_1984_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Finn), [Los Angeles](/source/Los_Angeles)[6][7][8] Neeleman did a second attempt in the [Finn](/source/Sailing_at_the_1984_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Finn)[9][10] and finished on the 9th place.[11][12][13] Neeleman missed the selection for the [1988 Olympics](/source/Sailing_at_the_1988_Summer_Olympics), [Pusan](/source/Busan).

After that he switched to the [Star](/source/Sailing_at_the_1992_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Star).[14] With crew member [Jos Schrier](/source/Jos_Schrier) at the [1992 Summer Olympics](/source/Sailing_at_the_1992_Summer_Olympics)[15] in [Barcelona](/source/Barcelona) Neeleman took 4th place.[16] Again in the Star and again with Jos Schrier, Neeleman took 6th place[17] in the [2000 Summer Olympics](/source/Sailing_at_the_2000_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Star), [Sydney](/source/Sydney).[18] His last Olympic appearance was in the [2004 Athens Olympics](/source/Sailing_at_the_2004_Summer_Olympics).[19][20] This time with crew member [Peter van Niekerk](/source/Peter_van_Niekerk), Neeleman took 14th place[21] in the [Star](/source/Sailing_at_the_2004_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Star).[22]

Besides his Olympic sailing career Mark Neeleman won the 1995 [J/22 World Championship](/source/J/22_World_Championship) and became in total 16 times Dutch Champion over several different classes. Among them there were titles in the Youth class, [O-Jolle](/source/O-Jolle), [Finn](/source/Finn_(dinghy)), Regenboog, [J/22](/source/J/22), [Dragon](/source/Dragon_(keelboat)). Neeleman was tactician on *Favonius* Swann 8o ft 3rd worlds and tactician/co-helmsman on *Rainbow* J-Class 2012/2013
