# Mark Mahoney

**Mark Mahoney** (born 1957) is an American tattoo artist. He is considered as the founding father of [black and grey](/source/Black-and-gray) art with a single needle.[1][2]

## Biography

Mark Mahoney grew up in [Boston](/source/Boston), [Massachusetts](/source/Massachusetts).[3] After a brief stint at the [School of the Museum of Fine Arts](/source/School_of_the_Museum_of_Fine_Arts_at_Tufts), he became a tattoo artist.[3]

He owns and is the principal artist at the Shamrock Social Club on [Sunset Boulevard](/source/Sunset_Boulevard) in [Hollywood, Los Angeles](/source/Hollywood,_Los_Angeles), [California](/source/California).[1][2]

He has tattooed the celebrity clients [Kelly Osbourne](/source/Kelly_Osbourne),[4] [Lady Gaga](/source/Lady_Gaga),[5] [David Beckham](/source/David_Beckham),[6] and [Brooklyn Beckham](/source/Brooklyn_Beckham).[7]

He took [Dr. Woo](/source/Dr._Woo) as an apprentice.[8]
