**Maria Van Bommel** is a former Canadian politician in [Ontario](/source/Ontario), Canada. From 2003 to 2011, she was a member of the [Legislative Assembly of Ontario](/source/Legislative_Assembly_of_Ontario), representing the [London](/source/London,_Ontario) area [riding](/source/Electoral_district_(Canada)) of [Lambton—Kent—Middlesex](/source/Lambton%E2%80%94Kent%E2%80%94Middlesex_(provincial_electoral_district)) for the [Ontario Liberal Party](/source/Ontario_Liberal_Party).

## Politics

In the [2003 provincial election](/source/2003_Ontario_general_election), she defeated incumbent [Progressive Conservative](/source/Progressive_Conservative_Party_of_Ontario) [Marcel Beaubien](/source/Marcel_Beaubien) by about 3,500 votes in [Lambton—Kent—Middlesex](/source/Lambton%E2%80%94Kent%E2%80%94Middlesex_(provincial_electoral_district)), a predominantly rural riding in the southwest region of the province.[1]

She was defeated by [Monte McNaughton](/source/Monte_McNaughton) in the [2011 provincial election](/source/2011_Ontario_general_election) by nearly 7,000 votes.[2]
