A [Democrat](/source/Minnesota_Democratic-Farmer-Labor_Party), Ruud was first elected in 2004 when she defeated incumbent Rep. [Peter H. Adolphson](/source/Peter_H._Adolphson). Ruud is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Minnesota School of Nursing.
