**Maria Mutch** is a [Canadian](/source/Canadians) writer, whose memoir *Know the Night: A Memoir of Survival in the Small Hours* was a shortlisted nominee for the [Governor General's Award for English-language non-fiction](/source/Governor_General's_Award_for_English-language_non-fiction) at the [2014 Governor General's Awards](/source/2014_Governor_General's_Awards).[1]

Originally from [Kentville](/source/Kentville), [Nova Scotia](/source/Nova_Scotia),[2] Mutch was educated at [York University](/source/York_University).[3] She published *Know the Night* as a memoir of her experience as the mother of a son with [autism](/source/Autism).[4]

Mutch currently lives in [Rhode Island](/source/Rhode_Island).[3] She has also published essays and short fiction in both Canadian and American literary magazines.[3] Her first novel, *Molly Falls to Earth*, was published in 2020.[5]
