# Margecany

**Margecany** (Hungarian: *Margitfalva*, German: *Margareten*) is a village and municipality in the [Gelnica District](/source/Gelnica_District) in the [Košice Region](/source/Ko%C5%A1ice_Region) of eastern [Slovakia](/source/Slovakia).[2] Total municipality population was, in 2011, 1964 inhabitants.[3] Margecany is a very important railway junction situated on the main railway corridor ([Košice–Bohumín Railway](/source/Ko%C5%A1ice%E2%80%93Bohum%C3%ADn_Railway)) connecting [Košice](/source/Ko%C5%A1ice) with [Žilina](/source/%C5%BDilina) and [Bratislava](/source/Bratislava). [Ružín](/source/Ru%C5%BE%C3%ADn) reservoir regulates rivers [Hornád](/source/Horn%C3%A1d) and [Hnilec](/source/Hnilec_(river)). Technical attraction is the [Bujanov](/source/Bujanov_Tunnel) tunnel.
