# Margaret Good

**Margaret Elizabeth Rowell Good**[1][2] (born August 23, 1976) is an American lawyer and politician from [Florida](/source/Florida). She served in the [Florida House of Representatives](/source/Florida_House_of_Representatives) from 2018 to 2020, representing the [Sarasota](/source/Sarasota,_Florida) area. She is a member of the [Democratic Party](/source/Democratic_Party_(United_States)).

## Early life and career

Good grew up in [Georgia](/source/Georgia_(U.S._state)) and earned her [bachelor's degree](/source/Bachelor's_degree) in [German](/source/German_language) from the [University of South Carolina](/source/University_of_South_Carolina) and her [master's degree](/source/Master's_degree) from the [University of Washington](/source/University_of_Washington). She earned her [Juris Doctor](/source/Juris_Doctor) from the [University of Florida School of Law](/source/Fredric_G._Levin_College_of_Law) and was an attorney with the law firm Eastmoore Crauwels & DuBose.[3]

## Political career

Good defeated Republican [James Buchanan](/source/James_Buchanan_(Florida_politician)), son of [Vern Buchanan](/source/Vern_Buchanan), and Libertarian Alison Foxall in a [special election](/source/Special_election) on February 13, 2018, to fill a vacancy in the Florida House.[4] Good was closely re-elected in the November 2018 general election, defeating former state representative [Ray Pilon](/source/Ray_Pilon).[5]

In 2019, Good announced her candidacy for [Florida's 16th congressional district](/source/Florida's_16th_congressional_district), which has been held by Vern Buchanan since 2007.[6] She lost the election by 11%.
