# Marcus Goldbaum

**Marcus Goldbaum** (1835–1886) was a Prussian-born American pioneer and prospector in the [Arizona Territory](/source/Arizona_Territory).

## Early life

Marcus Goldbaum was born in 1835 in [Prussia](/source/Prussia) to a [Polish-Jewish](/source/Polish-Jewish) family.[1][2][3] He immigrated to the United States in the 1850s.[1][3]

## Career

Goldbaum lived in [Kansas](/source/Kansas), [Colorado](/source/Colorado), [New Mexico](/source/New_Mexico) and [California](/source/California) in the 1860s.[2] In 1869, he moved to [Tucson, Arizona](/source/Tucson,_Arizona).[2] He served as a Justice of the Peace in [Wickenburg, Arizona](/source/Wickenburg,_Arizona), in 1870.[1][2] He also lived in [Florence](/source/Florence,_Arizona), [Harshaw](/source/Harshaw,_Arizona),[2] [Benson](/source/Benson,_Arizona) and [Tombstone](/source/Tombstone,_Arizona).[3] He then settled down in Tucson, where he worked as a butcher.[2] He also worked as a butcher in [Phoenix](/source/Phoenix,_Arizona).[4]

Goldbaum was also a prospector in Southern Arizona, including the [Whetstone Mountains](/source/Whetstone_Mountains).[2]

## Personal life and death

Goldbaum was married to Sara Goldbaum.[2][3] They had seven children, four of which were born in Bavaria and three in Arizona.[2]

Goldbaum was killed by [Apache](/source/Apache) Native Americans in the Whetstone Mountains in 1886.[3][4]
