At the [2015 World Aquatics Championships](/source/2015_World_Aquatics_Championships) in [Kazan](/source/Kazan), [Russia](/source/Russia), he won the gold medal in the men's 200-meter breaststroke, becoming the first German to claim a championship title in that event.
