As part of the region of [Greater Poland](/source/Greater_Poland), i.e. the cradle of the Polish state, the area formed part of Poland since its establishment in the 10th century. Marchwacz was a private church village, administratively located in the Kalisz County in the [Kalisz Voivodeship](/source/Kalisz_Voivodeship_(1314%E2%80%931793)) in the [Greater Poland Province](/source/Greater_Poland_Province%2C_Crown_of_the_Kingdom_of_Poland) of the Kingdom of Poland.<ref>{{cite book|author=<!--Staff writer(s); no by-line.--> |title=Atlas historyczny Polski. Following the joint German-Soviet [invasion of Poland](/source/invasion_of_Poland), which started [World War II](/source/World_War_II) in September 1939, the village was [occupied by Germany](/source/Occupation_of_Poland_(1939%E2%80%931945)).
