# Marc Lemay

**Marc Lemay** (born April 4, 1951) is a Canadian politician who served as the [Member of Parliament](/source/Member_of_Parliament_(Canada)) (MP) for [Abitibi—Témiscamingue](/source/Abitibi%E2%80%94T%C3%A9miscamingue_(electoral_district)) from 2004 to 2011. He is a member of the [Bloc Québécois](/source/Bloc_Qu%C3%A9b%C3%A9cois) (BQ).

## Biography

Lemay was born in [Amos, Quebec](/source/Amos,_Quebec). A lawyer by occupation, he was first elected to the [House of Commons](/source/House_of_Commons_of_Canada) in the [2004 federal election](/source/2004_Canadian_federal_election) as the [Bloc Québécois](/source/Bloc_Qu%C3%A9b%C3%A9cois) candidate in the newly-established riding of [Abitibi—Témiscamingue](/source/Abitibi%E2%80%94T%C3%A9miscamingue_(electoral_district)). He defeated sitting MP [Gilbert Barrette](/source/Gilbert_Barrette), the [Liberal](/source/Liberal_Party_of_Canada) candidate, by nearly 12,000 votes. As a parliamentarian, Lemay was the Bloc's critic for Indian Affairs and Northern Development. He was defeated in the [2011 federal election](/source/2011_Canadian_federal_election) by [Christine Moore](/source/Christine_Moore_(politician)) of the [New Democratic Party](/source/New_Democratic_Party) (NDP).
