# Marc Carmichael

**Robert Marc Carmichael** (born February 21, 1950)[1] is an American politician from the state of [Indiana](/source/Indiana). A member of the [Democratic Party](/source/Democratic_Party_(US)), Carmichael represented the 35th district in the [Indiana House of Representatives](/source/Indiana_House_of_Representatives) from 1986 to 1991.[2]

## Biography

Carmichael has served as director of Governmental Affairs for the Indiana Gas Company and was the president of the Indiana Beverage Alliance from 1999 to 2020.[3] Carmichael earned a [Bachelor of Arts](/source/Bachelor_of_Arts) from the [University of Notre Dame](/source/University_of_Notre_Dame).[4] Carmichael ran for [U.S. Senate in the 2024 election](/source/2024_United_States_Senate_election_in_Indiana). He lost in the Democratic primary to Valerie McCray.[5] He was previously the Democratic nominee for [Indiana's 2nd congressional district](/source/Indiana's_2nd_congressional_district) in [1996](/source/1996_United_States_House_of_Representatives_elections#Indiana), losing to Republican incumbent [David McIntosh](/source/David_McIntosh_(politician)) by a margin of 17.95%.[1][6]
