The diocese of Maraguia was [centered](/source/cathedra) on an [ancient](/source/Late_antiquity) [Roman town](/source/civitas) of the [Roman province](/source/Roman_province) of [Byzacena](/source/Byzacena) called Maraguia which is tentatively identifiable with the ruins of [Ksar-Margui](/source/Ksar-Margui) in modern [Tunisia](/source/Tunisia). The only known bishop of this [African](/source/Roman_North_Africa) diocese is Boniface, who took part in the [synod assembled in Carthage in 484](/source/Council_of_Carthage_(484)) by the [Arian](/source/Arianism) King [Huneric](/source/Huneric) of the [Vandal Kingdom](/source/Vandal_Kingdom), after which Boniface was exiled. Today, the diocese of Maraguia survives as a bishopric holder. On 27 September 2023, the seat is assigned to Bishop-Elect Zenildo Lima da Silva, auxiliary bishop of [Manaus](/source/Roman_Catholic_Archdiocese_of_Manaus) and Titular Bishop of Maraguia.
