==Etymology==

The beach was named by [Captain Arthur Phillip](/source/Arthur_Phillip) for the indigenous people living there. Within walking distance of Manly Beach along the [oceanway](/source/oceanway) is Fairy Bower and [Shelly Beach](/source/Shelly_Beach_(Manly)). There are shops, restaurants, night clubs, and bars in town.

==Patrol==
