**Manikganj-1** is a constituency represented in the [Jatiya Sangsad](/source/Jatiya_Sangsad) (National Parliament) of [Bangladesh](/source/Bangladesh).

## Boundaries

The constituency encompasses [Daulatpur](/source/Daulatpur_Upazila%2C_Manikganj), [Ghior](/source/Ghior_Upazila), and [Shivalaya](/source/Shivalaya_Upazila) upazilas.[2][3]

## History

The constituency was created in 1984 from the [Dhaka-1](/source/Dhaka-1) constituency when the former Dhaka District was split into six districts: [Manikganj](/source/Manikganj_District), [Munshiganj](/source/Munshiganj_District), [Dhaka](/source/Dhaka_District), [Gazipur](/source/Gazipur_District), [Narsingdi](/source/Narsingdi_District), and [Narayanganj](/source/Narayanganj_District).

Ahead of the [2008 general election](/source/2008_Bangladeshi_general_election), the [Election Commission](/source/Bangladesh_Election_Commission) redrew constituency boundaries to reflect population changes revealed by the [2001 Bangladesh census](/source/2001_Bangladesh_census).[4] The 2008 redistricting altered the boundaries of the constituency.[5]
