'''Manicotti''' (the plural form of the [Italian](/source/Italian_language) word ''manicotto''; < ''manica'', 'sleeve', + the augmentative ending, ''-otto'') are a type of pasta in [Italian-American cuisine](/source/Italian-American_cuisine). They are large [pasta](/source/pasta) tubes intended to be stuffed and baked.<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://www.tasteatlas.com/manicotti|title=Manicotti | Local Pasta Variety From Italy|website=www.tasteatlas.com}}</ref>

The filling is generally [ricotta](/source/ricotta) cheese mixed with chopped parsley, and possibly [ground meat](/source/ground_meat) such as [veal](/source/veal), but with pasta and a strictly meat filling it is known as [cannelloni](/source/cannelloni). They are served topped with [tomato sauce](/source/tomato_sauce).

Another traditional variation of manicotti that has been popular among older generations of Italian-Americans uses ''[crespelle](/source/%3Ait%3Acrespelle)'' (Italian [crêpes](/source/cr%C3%AApes)) instead of the dried pasta tubes, which have become more common in modern Italian-American cuisine.
