# Mandrake Press

The **Mandrake Press** was a British [small press](/source/Small_press) founded by Edward Goldston and [P. R. Stephensen](/source/P._R._Stephensen) in 1929. In 1930, the company had financial problems and a consortium led by [Aleister Crowley](/source/Aleister_Crowley) formed Mandrake Press Ltd to take it over. The consortium was likewise unsuccessful, and the company was dissolved in 1930.[1]

S. Koteliansky](/source/S._S._Koteliansky), [Aleister Crowley](/source/Aleister_Crowley), [Thomas Burke](/source/Thomas_Burke_(author)), [Cecil Roth](/source/Cecil_Roth), [Beresford Egan](/source/Beresford_Egan), [W. J. Turner](/source/W._J._Turner), [Brinsley MacNamara](/source/Brinsley_MacNamara), [Edgell Rickword](/source/Edgell_Rickword), [Richard Barham Middleton](/source/Richard_Barham_Middleton), [V. V. ## Notable publications

At the 1985 [Cambridge University](/source/Cambridge_University) Exhibition of the works of The Mandrake Press, it was believed that no copies of the [Book of Tobit](/source/Book_of_Tobit), a part of the Catholic bible, had been produced, even though the book had been announced and a prospectus issued. Since then, three copies have been discovered – one in an Australian library and two in private collections.[3]
