After leaving the [commercial](/source/Commerce) [art](/source/art) world in 1965, he illustrated [comics](/source/comics) and [magazines](/source/magazines) for [D.C. As a skilled banjo player, he was a member of the Scottish skiffle group, the Vindscreen Vipers, and contributed the artwork for the album ''Ah'll Get Ye!'' by [Danny Kyle](/source/Danny_Kyle), another member of the group.

His [caricature](/source/caricature) skill got him invited to [corporate](/source/Corporation) events in [Jamaica](/source/Jamaica), [Canada](/source/Canada), [Croatia](/source/Croatia), [Germany](/source/Germany), [Romania](/source/Romania), [Kuwait](/source/Kuwait), [India](/source/India) and [Russia](/source/Russia). For ten years he was resident [cartoonist](/source/cartoonist) on [ITV](/source/ITV_Network)'s networked quiz show, ''[Win, Lose or Draw](/source/Win%2C_Lose_or_Draw_(British_game_show))''.

He was a key player in organising the National Cartoon Festival which was held annually in [Ayr](/source/Ayr), [Scotland](/source/Scotland) between 1998 and 2002, and was a regular [after-dinner speaker](/source/public_speaking). ==Personal life==
McCormick and his wife Ann had three children: Jane, Sean, and Dominic.

McCormick died of [vascular dementia](/source/vascular_dementia) on 15 April 2019 at a care centre in [Ayrshire](/source/Ayrshire).
