'''Malignants''' is a name used for the advisors of [Charles I of England](/source/Charles_I_of_England), chief among whom were [Thomas Wentworth, 1st Earl Strafford](/source/Thomas_Wentworth%2C_1st_Earl_of_Strafford) and [William Laud](/source/William_Laud), Archbishop of Canterbury. The term was used by the [Parliamentarians](/source/Parliament_of_England), who blamed them for the evils of the country; the name was afterwards applied to the whole [Royalist](/source/Cavalier) party.{{sfn|Wood|1907|loc="Malignants"}}
