'''Malda Museum''' is an [archaeological](/source/archaeology) [museum](/source/museum) under the West Bengal Directorate of Archaeology. The museum was established in 1937<ref name="BradnockBradnock2001">{{cite book|author=Robert Bradnock, Roma Bradnock|title=India Handbook|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=EB0wAQAAIAAJ|year=2001|publisher=Trade & Travel Publications}}</ref> and is situated on Subhankar Bandh Road of [English Bazar](/source/Malda_City) in [Malda district](/source/Malda_district) of [West Bengal](/source/West_Bengal), India.

==Overview==
The museum took off initially as a collection of historic artifacts found within the [district](/source/Malda_district) and was set up within the premises of the Malda District Library. It was later shifted to a new adjacent building of its own and granted the status of a museum in its own right under the State Directorate of Archaeology.

Though [Malda](/source/English_Bazar) itself came up only in the times of [British colonial rule](/source/British_Raj), the region had been the seat of power of [Bengal](/source/Bengal) since the 7th century till the late 16th century, when the nearby [Gour](/source/Gaur%2C_West_Bengal) and [Pandua](/source/Pandua%2C_Malda) served as the capital cities of the entire Bengal region. The museum, renovated and revamped recently, showcases the archaeological, [anthropological](/source/anthropology), and historical heritage of the region.<ref>{{cite book|title=Footprint India|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=NNsvAQAAIAAJ|year=2004|publisher=Footprint Handbooks}}</ref> The museum has a number of fine specimens of [sculptures](/source/sculptures), [figurine](/source/figurine)s, [calligraphic inscription tablets](/source/epigraphy), [terracotta plaques](/source/Indian_inscriptions) and other artifacts that represent more than 1500 years of history and heritage.
