**Malcolm Appleby** [MBE](/source/Order_of_the_British_Empire) (born 1946 in [West Wickham](/source/West_Wickham))[1] is a Scottish engraver. His public and private commissions include: the [monde](/source/Monde) (orb) of the [Coronet of Charles, Prince of Wales](/source/Coronet_of_Charles%2C_Prince_of_Wales) (1969); a 500th anniversary silver cup for the [London Assay Office](/source/London_Assay_Office) (1978); a raven gun for the [Royal Armouries](/source/Royal_Armouries) (1986); a cruet set for [10 Downing Street](/source/10_Downing_Street), commissioned by [The Silver Trust](/source/The_Silver_Trust) (1988); a sculptural tablepiece for [Bute House](/source/Bute_House), Edinburgh, the residence of the [First Minister for Scotland](/source/First_Minister_for_Scotland) (1999); a silver teapot and gold beaded silver bowl for the [Art Gallery of Western Australia](/source/Art_Gallery_of_Western_Australia) in [Perth, Australia](/source/Perth%2C_Western_Australia) (2000); and the Royal and [Gannochy Trust](/source/Gannochy_Trust) Medals awarded by the [Royal Society of Edinburgh](/source/Royal_Society_of_Edinburgh) (2000, 2003).

Appleby trained at [Beckenham School of Art](/source/Beckenham_School_of_Art), [Ravensbourne College of Art](/source/Ravensbourne_College_of_Art_and_Design), [Central School of Arts and Crafts](/source/Central_School_of_Arts_and_Crafts), [Sir John Cass](/source/Sir_John_Cass) School of Art and the [Royal College of Art](/source/Royal_College_of_Art). He was a Littledale Scholar at the [Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths](/source/Worshipful_Company_of_Goldsmiths) in 1969. He has lived in Scotland for most of his working life, and currently maintains an atelier at [Grandtully](/source/Grandtully) near [Aberfeldy, Perthshire](/source/Aberfeldy%2C_Perthshire). He received an honorary [D.Litt.](/source/D.Litt.) from [Heriot-Watt University](/source/Heriot-Watt_University) in 2000[2] and was appointed [Member of the Order of the British Empire](/source/Member_of_the_Order_of_the_British_Empire) (MBE) in the [2014 Birthday Honours](/source/2014_Birthday_Honours) for services to hand engraving.[3]
