# Maimekden

**Maimekden** (or **May Mekden**) is a village in [Tigray Region](/source/Tigray_Region), located 27 kilometers south of [Wukro](/source/Wukro). It is located on the crossing of [Ethiopian Highway 2](/source/Ethiopian_Highway_2) and the Mai Mekden river.

## Administrative division

In [Imperial times](/source/Solomonic_dynasty), Maimekden used to be the administrative center of the [Wenberta](/source/Wenberta) woreda, part of the [Enderta Province](/source/Enderta_Province). Nowadays, the [new Wenberta](/source/Atsbi_Wenberta) district has its center in the town of [Atsbi](/source/Atsbi) and Maimekden is located in the [Kilte Awulaelo](/source/Kilte_Awulaelo) district with Wukro as its administrative center.
