# Magnus (bishop)

Roman Catholic bishop of Turku

Not to be confused with [Magnus (bishop of Milan)](/source/Magnus_(bishop_of_Milan)).

**Bishop Magnus I**, also known as **Mauno**, was the [Roman Catholic](/source/Roman_Catholic) [bishop of Turku](/source/Bishop_of_Turku) between 1291 and 1308.[1] He was the first bishop who is known to have been born in [Finland](/source/Finland). He also helped to complete the [Christianization](/source/Christianization) of Finland started by [St. Henry](/source/Henry%2C_Bishop_of_Uppsala).[2]

In 1300, Bishop Magnus [translated](/source/Translation_(relics)) the relics of St. Henry during a period of consolidation of religious and secular power in [Medieval](/source/Medieval) [Northern Europe](/source/Northern_Europe).[3] In the same year, he consecrated [Turku Cathedral](/source/Turku_Cathedral).[4]
