The [surnames](/source/Surname) **MacEachen,** **McEachen,** **MacEachin,** and **McEachin** are [Anglicised](/source/Anglicised) forms of the [Scottish Gaelic](/source/Scottish_Gaelic) *[MacEachainn](/source/MacEachainn)*, which means "son of *[Eachann](/source/Eachann)*".[1] The Scottish Gaelic [given name](/source/Given_name) *[Eachann](/source/Eachann)* is composed of two elements. The first element is *each*, meaning "horse". The second element is *donn*, which has been given two different meanings. One proposed meaning is "brown";[2] the other is "lord".[1]
