== Biography ==
Maanu hailed from [Kuppalli](/source/Kuppalli), a village in [Shimoga district](/source/Shimoga_district) of [Karnataka](/source/Karnataka). He obtained his [bachelor of arts](/source/bachelor_of_arts) degree from Sahyadri College in [Shimoga](/source/Shimoga). During this time, he also performed in [amateur theatre](/source/amateur_theatre). He obtained a master's degree from [University of Mysore](/source/University_of_Mysore), and began working as a [reader](/source/Reader_(academic_rank)) at a private educational institution. Maanu married the daughter of a family friend, Asha, in 1975, and the couple have two children. Maanu died due to injuries sustained from a car crash on the night of 16 July 1996 near [Arsikere](/source/Arsikere), en route to [Shimoga](/source/Shimoga), to address a gathering of the Nava Nirmana Vedike banner, of Karnataka's former [Chief Minister](/source/List_of_chief_ministers_of_Karnataka) [Ramakrishna Hegde](/source/Ramakrishna_Hegde).
