# MV Delight

**MV *Delight*** is a [Hong Kong](/source/Hong_Kong)-[flagged](/source/Flag_of_convenience) [grain carrier](/source/Bulk_carrier). It was [attacked and hijacked](/source/Piracy) in the [Gulf of Aden](/source/Gulf_of_Aden) in the [Arabian Sea](/source/Arabian_Sea) off the coast of [Yemen](/source/Yemen) in the [Horn of Africa](/source/Horn_of_Africa) by [Somali](/source/Somali_people) [pirates](/source/Pirate) on 18 November 2008 at 2 p.m.[2][3][4] The *Delight*, chartered by the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines,[5] was carrying a [cargo](/source/Cargo) of 36,000 tonnes of [wheat](/source/Wheat), and was heading for Iran's [Bandar Abbas](/source/Bandar_Abbas) [port](/source/Port). The 25 crew members were from [India](/source/India) (7), [Pakistan](/source/Pakistan) (2), [Philippines](/source/Philippines) (7), [Iran](/source/Iran) (7), [Ghana](/source/Ghana) (2).[6][7][8] The ship was released on 10 January 2009.[9]

## Ransom

On 22 November, India's Directorate General of Shipping announced that communication had been established between the pirates and Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines' Emergency Response Committee.[8]
