The''' MP 51''' ([fr](/source/%3Afr%3AMP_51)) was the first [rubber-tyred metro](/source/rubber-tyred_metro) prototype operated by the [Régie autonome des transports parisiens](/source/RATP_Group) (English: ''Autonomous Parisian Transportation Administration'', ''RATP'') on the [Paris Metro](/source/Paris_Metro) system, starting in 1951.

The MP 51 was fitted with GoA 2 [automatic train operation](/source/automatic_train_operation) from the start. It ran with passengers from 13 April 1952 until 31 May 1956 and was used as a test bed for rubber-tyred metro technology and automatic train operation.<ref>{{Cite book |last=Tricoire |first=Jean |url=http://worldcat.org/oclc/469256519 |title=Un siècle de métro en 14 lignes : de Bienvenüe à Météor |publisher=La Vie du rail |year=2004 |isbn=2-915034-32-X |language=fr |oclc=469256519}}</ref><ref name="notre">{{Cite book |last=Robert |first=Jean |url=http://worldcat.org/oclc/637304795 |title=Notre métro |publisher=[RATP](/source/RATP_Group) |year=1983 |edition=2nd |location=Neuilly-sur-Seine |language=fr |oclc=637304795}}</ref><ref>{{cite book |last1=Janssoone |first1=Didier |title=Technologie fonctionnelle du transport ferroviaire et urbain: Train - métro - tramway - RER |date=15 September 2021 |publisher=Dunod |isbn=978-2-10-083240-8 |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=UnQ_EAAAQBAJ |language=fr}}</ref> Lack of funds prevented installation of automatic train operation on the rest of the Paris Metro until 1966, starting with [line 11](/source/Paris_Metro_Line_11). [Line 14](/source/Paris_Metro_Line_14), opened in 1998, was the first newly built Paris Metro to operate in GoA 4, and [Line 1](/source/Paris_Metro_Line_1) later also had its GoA 2 ATO system from 1972 replaced to a newer GoA 4 CBTC system.

== Operations ==
The MP 51 operated a shuttle service on ''la [voie navette](/source/Voie_des_F%C3%AAtes_and_the_voie_navette_of_the_Paris_Metro)'' of the [Paris Metro](/source/Paris_Metro). The short service, only {{Convert|770|m|ft|abbr=on}} long, featured sharp turns and steep grades, characteristics well-suited to rubber-tyred metro trains.

The MP 51 featured a GoA 2 system with an ATO "mat" fitted onto the underfloor of the train, continuously in contact with a guide-line between the tracks nicknamed "Grecque." During its operation on ''la voie navette'', train drivers often prompted passengers to "operate the train" by pushing the ATO start button.<ref name="notre" />
