***MLB 2001*** is a 2000 [baseball](/source/Baseball) [video game](/source/Video_game) developed and published by [989 Sports](/source/989_Sports) for the [PlayStation](/source/PlayStation_(console)). The color commentary for the game is from [Dave Campbell](/source/Dave_Campbell_(infielder)) and the play by play announcer is [Vin Scully](/source/Vin_Scully). [Chipper Jones](/source/Chipper_Jones) of the [Atlanta Braves](/source/Atlanta_Braves) was featured on the cover.[2] It is the first game in the *[MLB](/source/989_Sports_Major_League_Baseball_series)* series to not be published directly by [Sony Computer Entertainment](/source/Sony_Interactive_Entertainment).

It was preceded by *[MLB 2000](/source/MLB_2000)* and succeeded by *[MLB 2002](/source/MLB_2002)*.

## Reception

The game received "favorable" reviews according to the [review aggregation](/source/Review_aggregator) website [GameRankings](/source/GameRankings).[3] *[GamePro](/source/GamePro)* said, "While it may not have the flashiest graphics, *MLB 2001* delivers topnotch sound, solid controls, and a better-balanced and more realistic baseball simulation than either *[Triple Play](/source/Triple_Play_2001)* or *[High Heat](/source/Sammy_Sosa_High_Heat_Baseball_2001)*."[4][a]
