The **MAS Region** ([Spanish](/source/Spanish_language): *MAS Región*), known until 2014 as **Broad Social Movement** ([Spanish](/source/Spanish_language): *Movimiento Amplio Social*, **MAS**) was a [Chilean](/source/Chile) [left-wing](/source/Left-wing) political party founded by [Alejandro Navarro](/source/Alejandro_Navarro_(politician)) in 2008.

The party was created as a political movement in 2008, by Senator Alejandro Navarro, after the then member of the [Socialist Party](/source/Socialist_Party_of_Chile) (PS) began to feel poorly represented both by his party (which was then headed by [Camilo Escalona](/source/Camilo_Escalona)) as the [Concertacion](/source/Concertacion), political coalition that owns the PS.[2] The party is inspired by the [Socialism of the 21st century](/source/Socialism_of_the_21st_century).

In 2009, after a failed presidential campaign, Navarro and the MAS members offer support to candidate [Marco Enríquez-Ominami](/source/Marco_Enr%C3%ADquez-Ominami).[3] For the [presidential election of 2013](/source/2013_Chilean_presidential_election), however, announced it will support [Michelle Bachelet](/source/Michelle_Bachelet) (PS), representative of the former Concertacion. Currently participating in the electoral coalition [Nueva Mayoría](/source/Nueva_Mayor%C3%ADa). Some members did not support this decision and formed the [United Left](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=United_Left_(Chile)&action=edit&redlink=1).[4]

In 2014 it merged with the Northern Force Party, led by the mayor of [Iquique](/source/Iquique), Jorge Soria, to form MAS Region.[5] In 2016, Senator Navarro resigned the party and the [Nueva Mayoría](/source/Nueva_Mayor%C3%ADa) to form the new [País](/source/Pa%C3%ADs) party.[6] In 2018, MAS Region merged with [Citizen Left](/source/Citizen_Left) to become MAS Citizen Left.[7]
