Born in New York City, Green played [college basketball](/source/college_basketball) at [Long Island University](/source/Long_Island_University) and was selected by the [Cincinnati Royals](/source/Cincinnati_Royals) in the third round of the [1969 NBA draft](/source/1969_NBA_draft) and by the [Miami Floridians](/source/Miami_Floridians) in the 1969 ABA Draft.

Green played for the [New York Nets](/source/New_York_Nets) of the [American Basketball Association](/source/American_Basketball_Association) for two seasons. From 1971 to 1972 he played for the [Harlem Wizards](/source/Harlem_Wizards), and he played briefly for the [National Basketball Association](/source/National_Basketball_Association)'s [Philadelphia 76ers](/source/Philadelphia_76ers) during the [1972–73 NBA season](/source/1972%E2%80%9373_NBA_season).
