# Luke Potter

**Luke Alexander Potter** (born 17 July 1989) is an English former professional [footballer](/source/Association_football) who played as a [defender](/source/Defender_(association_football)). He was recently manager of [Basford United](/source/Basford_United_F.C.).

## Career

Born in [Barnsley](/source/Barnsley), Potter made his league debut in [Barnsley](/source/Barnsley_F.C.)'s final fixture of the [2006–07](/source/2006%E2%80%9307_in_English_football) season, in which Barnsley lost 7–0 at [West Bromwich Albion](/source/West_Bromwich_Albion_F.C.).

He has had three [loan](/source/Loan_(association_football)) spells away from [Oakwell](/source/Oakwell). In late 2007 he spent two months on loan at [Conference National](/source/Conference_National) team [Stafford Rangers](/source/Stafford_Rangers_F.C.),[1] and on January transfer window deadline day 2009, joined [Kettering Town](/source/Kettering_Town_F.C.) until the end of the [2008–09](/source/2008%E2%80%9309_in_English_football) season.[2] Potter announced his retirement from football on 3 April 2012, after suffering from a long recurring knee injury.[3]

## Coaching career

After retiring, he worked as a coach at the Barnsley academy and was assistant manager at [Ossett Albion](/source/Ossett_Albion_A.F.C.) for four years. In September 2017 he was appointed manager of [Athersley Recreation](/source/Athersley_Recreation_F.C.).[4] He resigned from the role in May 2019.[5] In June 2019, he was appointed assistant coach at [Matlock Town](/source/Matlock_Town_F.C.).[6] Potter left the club on 22 January 2020 together with head coach Steve Kittrick.[7]

On 11 April, Potter became Assistant Manager to Kittrick once again at Guiseley on an interim basis, following the dismissal of [Marcus Bignot](/source/Marcus_Bignot) and Russ O'Neill.[8]

In December 2024, Potter was appointed manager of [Northern Premier League](/source/Northern_Premier_League) Premier Division side [Basford United](/source/Basford_United_F.C.).[9]
