Lieutenant Candelaria successfully crossed the Andes on 13 April 1918 in a [Morane-Saulnier Parasol](/source/Morane-Saulnier_L) with an 80 hp [rotary engine](/source/Rotary_engine), taking off from [Zapala](/source/Zapala) ([Argentina](/source/Argentina)) and landing at [Cunco](/source/Cunco%2C_Chile) ([Chile](/source/Chile)) after a total flight time of 2 hours 30 minutes during which he reached 4,000 meters of altitude.[2] The Argentine Government granted Candelaria the title of **Military Aviator** for that feat.[3][4][5][6]
