**Lucas Dean Scicluna** (born 7 November 2005) is a professional [soccer](/source/Association_football) player who last played as a [defensive midfielder](/source/Defensive_midfielder) for the [Newcastle Jets](/source/Newcastle_Jets_FC). Born in Australia, he represents Malta internationally at the youth level.

## Club career

### Youth

Lucas moved to England from Australia at the age of eight, first joining the Aston Villa academy at under-8s.[1] After a season with [Aston Villa](/source/Aston_Villa_F.C.), he moved to the academy of [Wolverhampton Wanderers.](/source/Wolverhampton_Wanderers_F.C.)

Scicluna earned a scholarship deal with Wolverhampton,[2] spending the 2022–23 season with their Under-18s side before departing at the end of the season.

Lucas returned to Australia, signing with the [Central Coast Mariners Academy](/source/Central_Coast_Mariners_Academy).[3]

### Central Coast Mariners

After returning from England, Lucas featured heavily for the Central Coast Mariners reserve team in the [National Premier Leagues NSW](/source/National_Premier_Leagues_NSW)[4]

Lucas featured in the [Central Coast Mariners](/source/Central_Coast_Mariners_FC) senior squad for the first time in the [2024–25 AFC Champions League Elite](/source/2024%E2%80%9325_AFC_Champions_League_Elite), as he was on the bench against [Shanghai Shenhua F.C.](/source/Shanghai_Shenhua_F.C.) He made his professional debut against [Western United FC](/source/Western_United_FC) on January 29, 2025.[5] Lucas departed the Mariners at the conclusion of the [2024–25 A-League](/source/2024%E2%80%9325_A-League_Men) season.

### Newcastle Jets

After initially playing for the [Newcastle Jets Youth team](/source/Newcastle_Jets_FC_Youth) in the [Football NSW League One](/source/Football_NSW_League) competition,[6] Scicluna debuted for the senior team against [Adelaide United](/source/Adelaide_United_FC) in the [Australia Cup](/source/Australia_Cup).[7] On the 23rd of September 2025, the [Newcastle Jets](/source/Newcastle_Jets_FC) would announce that Scicluna had signed a one-year scholarship deal with the club.[8] Lucas would not feature for the senior team again until the [2025 Australia Cup final](/source/2025_Australia_Cup_final), coming off of the bench to help the Jets win the cup.[9]

## International career

Lucas has featured for the [Malta national football team](/source/Malta_national_football_team) at both [U19](/source/Malta_national_under-19_football_team)[10] and [U21](/source/Malta_national_under-21_football_team)[11] level.

He is the younger brother of [Dylan Scicluna](/source/Dylan_Scicluna).[1]
