# Lucas Freitas

**Lucas de Freitas Molarinho Chagas** (born 20 January 2001), known as **Lucas Freitas**, is a Brazilian [footballer](/source/Association_football) who plays as a [centre-back](/source/Centre-back) for [Vasco da Gama](/source/CR_Vasco_da_Gama).

## Career

Freitas was born in [Rio de Janeiro](/source/Rio_de_Janeiro), and was a youth product of [Flamengo](/source/CR_Flamengo). On 28 January 2020, after his contract expired, he moved abroad and signed an 18-month deal with [La Liga](/source/La_Liga) side [Real Valladolid](/source/Real_Valladolid).[1]

After featuring for the *Juvenil A* side, Freitas first appeared with the main squad on 16 January 2021, coming on as an extra-time [substitute](/source/Substitute_(association_football)) for injured [Javi Sánchez](/source/Javi_S%C3%A1nchez_(footballer)) in a 4–1 away routing of [SCR Peña Deportiva](/source/SCR_Pe%C3%B1a_Deportiva), for [the season](/source/2020%E2%80%9321_Copa_del_Rey)'s [Copa del Rey](/source/Copa_del_Rey).[2] He subsequently featured with [the reserves](/source/Real_Valladolid_Promesas) in [Segunda División B](/source/Segunda_Divisi%C3%B3n_B), before leaving the club in July after his contract ended.[3]

On 6 August 2021, Freitas returned to his home country after signing for [Palmeiras](/source/SE_Palmeiras), being initially a member of the under-20 team.[4] He made his first team – and [Série A](/source/Campeonato_Brasileiro_S%C3%A9rie_A) – debut on 30 November, replacing [Gustavo Garcia](/source/Gustavo_Garcia_(footballer,_born_2002)) in a 3–1 away win over [Cuiabá](/source/Cuiab%C3%A1_Esporte_Clube).[5]

On 31 August 2022, after finishing his formation, Freitas was loaned to [Liga Portugal 2](/source/Liga_Portugal_2) side [Moreirense](/source/Moreirense_F.C.) for one year.[6] He was rarely used as the club [achieved promotion](/source/2022%E2%80%9323_Liga_Portugal_2) as champions, and moved to [Série B](/source/Campeonato_Brasileiro_S%C3%A9rie_B) side [Chapecoense](/source/Associa%C3%A7%C3%A3o_Chapecoense_de_Futebol) also in a temporary deal on 30 June 2023.[7]

A regular starter at *Chape*, Freitas joined [Juventude](/source/Esporte_Clube_Juventude) on loan for the 2024 season on 31 December 2023.[8]

Lucas Freitas is [twin brother](/source/Twin_brother) of the also professional footballer [Luan Freitas](/source/Luan_Freitas).[9]
